So I’m sure some of you guys are wondering what’s the big deal about 5 middle-aged effeminate men from Japan. And for many Japanese, getting the smallest glimpse of them in person is a big deal. They were the band everyone knew back in the 1980’s through the 90’s. Yoshiki, the leader, drums, piano, composer, composed a song for the emperor. When the enigmatic HIDE (lead guitar) was found dead over 10 years ago, everyone; old and young, and even those of high government rankings express great grief over him. And so, we all thought Yoshiki would never get the remainder of the band reunited again.
On Saturday January 9th, they were perched by the shabu shabu restaurant on top of the famous Hollywood and Highland Kodak Theater. The plan was that they would create this this elaborate set and record 4 music videos here. So there’s no live performance. But just the fact that X-Japan is in America, fan girls like me can careless about a live performance. However, being a music video shoot, we heard the same songs over, and over and over. At least I got to hear their new song “Jade.” The rest of the song-list was “Rusty Nail”, “I.V.” , and “Endless Rain.”

When the announcement came that the 2009 Nisei Week Showoff could possible be the last one ever, I knew right away that this was going to be a great show. Unfortunately, many of my fellow club members didn't understand the depth of this announcement and waited too late to register their cars for the show. At least two of our cars managed to register in time. Roll in and set up turned out to be a breeze as Ken Miyoshi, the mastermind behind Import Showoff, made sure everything ran smoothly. There were no problems with set-up vehicles, preferred spots , no big ego issues or anything else that I could see. The Showoff staff was very efficient and I give them mad props for that. To top it all off, the weather was much nicer than it was at last years show. |

Back again for it's third year straight, the SpoCom show invaded the Long Beach convention center. I tend to refer to this great event as a mini SEMA show due to its large number of aftermarket performance companies in attendance. No other show provides this kind of access and intermingling between the product manufactures and the end users. This allows the manufactures to see just how their products are being used. It also allows for the end user the opportunity to actually converse with the manufactures and show them what they have done with their products. This is also a great chance to find a new sponsor or two if you bring your "A" game and are able to market yourself correctly. |

As the 2009 San Diego Extreme Autofest event got closer and closer, we weren't sure if any of us would actually be attending this year due to a number of different circumstances. Fortunately a few of our newest members were able to come through to make it to the event. As usual the event was huge and once again combining a lowrider show along side sport compacts and cruisers. With my good friends from Team Analog (http://www.teamanalog.org/) helping out as event staff, load in and set up worked out beautifully. |
